Ilmify ("we", "us") provides an app and website that let you ask Islamic knowledge questions, browse verified answers and related scholarly discussions, book sessions with educators, and track learning progress. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
- Account information: email address, a hashed password (we never store your password in plain text), and an optional display name.
- Preferences: your selected madhhab (school of thought) and language, used only to personalize which answers and educators are shown to you. Your madhhab preference never changes the underlying text of the Qur'an or Hadith.
- Questions you ask: the text of questions you submit, an embedding (a numerical representation used for search) of that text, and our generated answers. This lets us find relevant prior answers and related scholarly discussions faster for you and other users.
- Child/parent-managed accounts: if you set up Ilmify for a child, we store the child's display name and age group under your parent account. Children do not create their own independent accounts or provide their own contact details.
- Bookings and payments: if you book a session with an educator, we store the booking details and session price. Payments are processed by Stripe; we do not store your full card number on our servers.
- Subscription status: your current plan (Free, Basic, or Premium) and renewal status.
- Technical data: basic request logs (e.g., IP address, timestamps) used for security and abuse prevention.
2. Related fatwas and third-party sources
When relevant, we may show you a link to a related question and answer already published on a third-party scholarly website (for example, Darul Ifta, Darul Uloom Deoband or Jamiatul Ulama KZN), along with a short, subject-level summary we generate ourselves. We do not reproduce the full ruling text from these sources, and we do not send your question to these third-party websites. The summary only describes the general topic of the linked discussion — you must open the link to read the actual ruling, with its full conditions and context, on the publisher's own site.
3. How we use your information
- To provide and personalize answers to your questions.
- To let you book and manage sessions with educators.
- To operate free/paid subscription tiers.
- To improve the relevance and quality of our search and matching.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your questions to train third-party public AI models beyond what is necessary to generate your own answer.
4. Service providers
We rely on trusted infrastructure providers to run Ilmify, including a hosted PostgreSQL database (Supabase) for storage, an AI provider for generating answers and embeddings, and Stripe for payment processing. These providers process data only on our behalf and under their own security and privacy commitments.
5. Children's privacy
Ilmify supports parent-managed child accounts. A child does not register independently — a parent creates and manages the child profile under their own account, and can view or remove it at any time. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children outside of this parent-managed flow.
6. Data retention and deletion
We retain account and question data for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the service. You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time by contacting us at support@ilmify.app. Some records (e.g., payment records) may be retained longer where required by law.
7. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@ilmify.app.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
